MTR | Station Construction Explainer Video
3D AnimationExplainer Video
This time, our team had 60 seconds of animation to clearly explain an extremely complex mega project: the construction of Hung Shui Kiu Station. Because the new station had to be built while the Tuen Ma Line kept running normally, the 10,000-tonne, 210-metre-long station structure was first prefabricated 20 metres away, then moved precisely into place using Mega Skidding technology. Our core task was to turn complex engineering data and processes into a 3D animated short that is easy for the public to understand and visually striking.

3D Model Optimisation
The original engineering files provided by MTR contained extremely detailed structural data, but the models built from them were not suitable for camera staging and fast rendering in Blender. We therefore rebuilt and optimised the models, greatly reducing the rendering load of the scenes while preserving the station's real architectural aesthetics and engineering accuracy.

Visual StyleStylized Realism
When we were invited, MTR had clearly asked for visuals that convey the grandeur of the construction while striking the best balance between architectural accuracy and visual clarity. After several attempts, we dropped the overly abstract all-white models of the early tests and avoided fully realistic environments that would distract from the focus, settling on a "Stylized Realism" style: the station structure keeps detailed architectural materials and structures, while the surroundings are simplified into bright gradients and dot patterns with a subtle holographic feel, keeping the audience's attention on the skidding operation itself.
