Panasonic Washer-Dryer TVC - Late Studio | Hong Kong Animation Studio

Late Studio produced the CG for Panasonic’s 30-second TV commercial for its washer-dryer, using Blender and Nuke for the 3D characters, product animation and compositing, bringing a cast of clothing characters to life inside and outside the machine.

Product 3D Model

Although high-resolution product photos were used in the final shots, the team also built a CG washing machine as a lighting reference.

Turning the Characters into 3D

The team built the 3D character models based on the 2D character designs.

Shot Breakdown

Fluid simulation was used to create the water flowing with the washing machine.

Different footage was combined to create a cosy, sauna-like feeling.

Foreground bubbles were made with Geometry Nodes; background bubbles used footage.

Z-depth information is very useful for blending CG with underwater backgrounds.

The 3D washing machine was used for scene lighting; the machine in the final shot is a specially photographed high-resolution product image.

Because it interacts with the characters, the machine body is a photo while the door is 3D.

Outdoor Bus Advertising

Beyond the TV commercial, the clothing characters also appeared on bus body advertising, travelling across the streets of Hong Kong. Extending from the screen into the city brought the brand closer to everyday life and introduced these lively, lovable characters to even more people.
