Lee Kum Kee Hotpot Sauces | Product Video Packaging Replacement
Packaging ReplacementTrackingCompositing
The same pot, the same hand.Only the packaging is new.
When Lee Kum Kee updated the packaging of its hotpot sauce series, the product video had already been shot and edited. Late Studio replaced the packaging in two of its shots, swapping the Hot and Spicy Chicken Pot sauce and the Golden Soup Pickled Fish sauce for the new design that carries the series name, while keeping the original camera moves, hand action and lighting. The team delivered two updated MOV shots for the client to drop straight back into the finished cut.
New Packaging, Existing Shots | Product Video Packaging Update
After the video was edited, the product moved to new packaging. The new design adds the series name beneath the Lee Kum Kee logo, and the logo itself changes in position and size.
The client wanted to keep the finished edit and update only the two shots where the product is clearly visible. The team received those two original MOV shots, replaced the packaging and sent them back, leaving everything else untouched.
Two Packs by the Hotpot | Overhead Shot Packaging Replacement
The first shot looks straight down at the hotpot table. One side of the split pot holds spicy chicken, the other golden pickled fish soup, and the camera drifts slowly from the pot towards the two sauce packs beside it.
With both packs in frame, the new packaging had to follow the camera move and sit exactly in the original position and angle. The reflections, creases and warm lighting on the pouches also had to be kept, so the new design looks as if it had been on the table on the day of the shoot.
The Hardest Moment | A Hand Tearing the Pack Open
The second shot is a low angle of a hand tearing open the Hot and Spicy Chicken Pot sauce. The whole shot lasts about a second, yet the pouch keeps bending with the hand, and the torn seal reveals the silver lining inside.
The new logo and series name had to bend and deform with the surface of the pouch while keeping the depth of field in the background. The goal of this kind of replacement is that viewers never notice the packaging was changed. The new lettering does not need to stand out more than the original; it only needs to match the existing light and the texture of the pouch.
Before and After | Old and New Packaging
The top row is the overhead shot and the bottom row is the tearing shot. The framing, action and timing of both shots are unchanged; only the lettering and logo position on the packaging are different.
Back into the Cut | Two Updated Shots Delivered
The team delivered two MOV shots with the new packaging in place. The client simply dropped them back into their original positions and kept the finished edit, with no reshoot required.
When a product changes its packaging or label after the video is finished, replacing the packaging in just the affected shots keeps the finished video in use.
