The soul within the armor has not returned to the grave. That death remains unfinished.
Minamoto no Yoshitsune, one of the most tragic warriors in Japanese history, rose to fame at a young age, only to be betrayed before his ambitions could be fulfilled. His resentment did not fade with death. Instead, it took form as an immortal armored spirit, reawakened for the Gorin Armor Soul exhibition. The Gorin series, created by Hong Kong toy designer Gino Lai, brings the soul of this vengeful warrior back to the battlefield.

Final Animation
In this 35-second cinematic short film, we transformed Yoshitsune’s final battlefield into a ritual of awakening resentment. Tattered war banners, decayed bones, and armor sitting silently in darkness gradually draw the viewer into a space consumed by death and obsession.
“This is not a triumphant return. It is the moment when a soul denied rest steps back onto the battlefield once more.”

The short film uses black as its dominant visual tone, creating a sense of oppression and death across the final battlefield. The violet flames are not merely decorative accents; they represent Yoshitsune’s lingering resentment and fire of vengeance.
From the tattered war banners and decayed bones to the armor sitting silently in darkness, violet gradually seeps into the frame like a long-suppressed obsession reigniting from the land of the dead.
Nuke CompositingAwakening the Flames of Resentment in the Dark
During the compositing stage, we used Nuke to further enhance the lighting layers and dark atmosphere of the short film. Crack lighting, flame reflections, and violet flames of resentment were used to guide the viewer’s eye and intensify the ominous feeling of the armored spirit awakening.
These compositing treatments were not simply added as visual effects. They allowed light itself to become part of the storytelling, as if resentment were seeping from within the armor and gradually setting the entire final battlefield ablaze.
