Late Studio was once again invited by MTR, this time to adapt Green T Baby's original children's picture book into an animation. The project used AI to turn static illustrations into animation, then brought the footage into After Effects, where camera moves and additional animated elements reduced the AI feel, before moving on to post-production voice-over. The whole project was completed as a streamlined pipeline.

Production Process

Unlike our previous AI projects, this one relied heavily on editing: pans and zoom-ins, transitions, music and sound effects to enrich the visuals, and finally voice-over matched to the picture. Together these made the AI flaws disappear from the final piece, leaving the audience with a cute and fun animation.

After generating the AI animation assets, we applied KeyLight to key them like green-screen footage. Just as a green screen is used for virtual backgrounds, this let us remove the backgrounds.

MTR provided the digital picture book, so we could easily separate the layers and turn them into animation.

The characters could be used as individual assets, making it easier to adjust the distance between them than using the AI animation directly. The background is a static image, repeated and extended to the right to create a loop.

Some images were used as they were without being separated. We zoomed and moved them, together with radiating speed lines, to convey the tension of the Carbon Monster's sudden appearance.

Besides the animation, we also produced a billboard version so that passers-by would notice the picture book and get to know Green T Baby.
