Kyubi x Squid Game | 3D Character Animation - Late Studio | Hong Kong Animation Studio

Late Studio was invited by Kyubi to create a debut teaser animation for Kyubi's collaboration with Squid Game. Kyubi is a cartoon character modelled on Anson Kong, with many existing looks. This timely collaboration made the teaser a hot topic on release. Below, we share more behind-the-scenes details of the teaser.

The client provided the character concept art, while the team handled the character layout. After discussion, a triangular formation was chosen.

Lighting DesignBuilding Mystery

To convey Kyubi's mystery as the mastermind, the team placed about 13 lights in the scene and added atmospheric particle effects to heighten the haze.

Refining the Expression

As the mastermind, Kyubi needed to look wicked and confident. The team first built the 3D model based on the smiling Kyubi in the concept art, but found it was not sinister enough, so they made a toothy grinning version. As expected, the client went with it.

Langham Place ExhibitionPop-up Store

The exhibition is held at the Atrium on Level 4 of Langham Place. Besides a Kyubi photo spot, there is plenty of collaboration merchandise, and Squid Game characters join the exhibition too. Come along and soak up the atmosphere!
